Upper Mustang trekking is a relatively new route for tourists. The route was opened some fifteen years ago. The foreign tourists need trekking permits and go only in groups. With unique, history, culture, and beautiful scenery, Upper Mustang is increasingly popular among the trekkers. The thinly populated area is hard to travel from one village to another, and you will need at least four hours to travel from one village to another.
This route takes you to an old Kingdom, The Kingdom of Mustang, also known as Lo. This has cultural, linguistic, and geographical proximity to Tibet. The trekking trails you trail are the old for trade between Nepal and Tibet. Trailing also leads us to Lo Manthang, the old capital of Manag Kingdom, with narrow alleyways, and long and beautiful walls with prayer wheels. The royal palace, monasteries including Thugchen
Day 1- Arrival in Kathmandu: Arrive in Kathmandu and settle in your hotel. Meet with your tour providers.
Day 2- Drive to Pokhara: Our tour operators accompany you to the bus stand to Pokhara. Arrive in the city of Pokhara, stay in your hotel and walk around the city, especially the lakeside and enjoy views of beautiful mountains.
Day 3-Pokhara to Jomsom and Kagbeni: Thrilled? As you take a flight to Jomsom at an altitude of 2720 meters. Fly for 25 minutes, you will see captivating views of Mountains, mainly, the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna! You land and climb up a trail with a beautiful view of Kali Gandaki valley. You keep on for 4 hours and arrive at Kagbeni at an altitude of 2800 meters.
Day 4-Kagbeni to Chele: You walk for 5-6 hours to Chele at an altitude of 3055 meters. You walk past Chuksang, and Tanbe Town, with white-washed houses and trees, and continuing to Chele, a small settlement. You start seeing amazing views as if it were a new world.
Day 5-Chele to Syangboche: Younwalk 5-6 hours to a place calledSyangboche at an altitude of 3930 meters. Then, a hard trek to EkloBhatti and then toTaklam La pass, and finally to Samar, with amazing views of Mt Nilgiri. Then you move downhill and arrive at colorfulRangchyung Stupa. The final leg from there will to Shyangboche, where you stay overnight.
Day 6- Syanboche to Ghami: Today, you walk to Yamada La pass (at 3,845 meters), then to Gelling, then to Tama Gun and climb up to Nyi La (4015 m) pass, before arriving atGhami.
Day 07-Ghami to Charang: You walk through dry land but with spectacular views of farmland at distance, and arrive at Charang, a settlement with a small population. Stay overnight here.
Day 8 – Charang to Lo Manthang: On your 8thday, you will trek from Charang to Lo Manthang (3810 meters). After climbing a pass after Charang, spectacular views of the valley below, and the old capital of Lo Manthang can be seen. Stay in the old capital for the night.
Day 9-At Lo Manthang: You will go around and enjoy at Lo Manthang. You will visit monasteries), likeJampa,Choprang, Thubten, and Chodey.
Day 10-Lo Manthang to Drakmar: Today, you walk 6 hours to Drakmar at an altitude of 3,810 meters, following the direction to Kagbeni. On the way, you will visitGharGompa and lodge at Drakmar.
Day 11- Drakmar to Geling:You walk 5 hours in dry areasuntilGeling at an altitude of 3800 meters. You walk to Ghami, and crossingNyiLa pass and a stream, climb up to a place withcolorfulstupa. The final leg will lead to Gelling, the place for your night halt.
Day 12 -Geling to Kagbeni: FromGeling, you reach to Syangboche and then toChuksang, visiting famousChungsi Cave Monastery. After a short break, you will arrive to Kagbeni.
Day 13-Kagbeni to Muktinath: Tired? No point, as you are hiking only for 5 hours to Muktinath, a common holy place for Buddhists, and Hindus. From Kagbeni, you continue to throng La pass and then continue to Muktinath.
Day 14-Trek to Jomsom: The last leg of your trekking! Just walk five hours and you arrive at Jomsom and your foot journey is over. From Muktinath, just walk to Jharkot and then to Khingar, and finally to Jomsom. You are proud now, as you have completed the long trails in the Himalayas.
Day 15- Fly back to Pokhara: Fly to Pokhara, gazing at the Gandaki valley and the mountains. Stay in Pokhara waiting for transfer to Kathmandu.
Day 16-Pokhara to Kathmandu: You are transferred to Kathmandu from Pokhara. Enjoy the 7-hour drive and scenic views on the way. Relax and shop your souvenirs to for your family and friends back home!
