How does it sound trekking in mid-hills and visiting the lakes in high altitudes? If that is your intention, the Langtang-Gosaikunda trek, very popular for other trekkers, could be perfect for you as well. For both Buddhists and Hindus, the GosaikundaLake is a pilgrim place. The trek takes your 16 days starting from Kathmandu to Gosaikunda/Langtang and back.
You will walk through exotic villages of ethnic Tamangs, with the captivating beauty of nature with woods and rivers, waterfalls and mountains, and the lakes including the Gusaikunda Lake. You trail through monasteries including Shin Gompa, and Buddhist painted walls and shrines.
Decide whether this is your kind of trek as it comprises of high altitude trails. You start at 20000 m above sea-level in Kathmandu and reach Gosainkunda at 4460 meters. Make sure you are okay with high altitudes and make sure you walk slowly as it helps in case of altitude sickness. You will be two weeks in mountain trails, so expect leech biting, and prepare for preventive measures.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
You will land at Kathmandu airport and be transferred to your hotel. If you still have some energy left, stroll around the city.
Day 02: A Day in Kathmandu
Shop items for trekking. Visit the Thames a good place for buying trekking. Also, visit historical and cultural places in the city. You can visit UNESCO World heritage sites like the old Kathmandu Durbar area, the temple of Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Lalitpur covering Patan Durbar square.
Day 3: Kathmandu to SyabruBesi
Today, you will travel nearly 122 KM in a bus for around 10 hours between Kathmandu (at an altitude of 1300 meters) and SyabruBesi (2000 meters). After a long drive, you will stay at Syabrubesi.
Day 4: SyabruBesi to Lama Hotel
Hurray, you start your trekking today! You will walk 11.3 KM in 5.5 hours to Lama Hotel at 2748 meters. Before the beginning of your trekking, however, we need to ensure that you have a trekking permit to pass through Langtang National Park. Your trails pass the Langtang River, and the beautiful villages of Mundus, GhodeTabela, and GumnaChowk. You stay overnight at Lama Hotel.
Day 5: To Langtang Valley
The greater challenge today, as you walk 14.8 kilometres in 5 hours! At the end of the day, you will be in Langtang Valley at 3500 meters altitude. You will like to see how the vegetation changes as climb higher in forests with rhododendrons, hemlock, maple and oak, and. Then the view of beautifulLangtangLirung, and walking further you will reach GhodeTabela through lush Tamang villages and wide meadows. And then, down in the valley, you will see flat-roof houses and farmland. You arrive at Langtang and stay at night there.
Day 6: To KyanjinGompa
The thought that you will be arriving in a place of the beautiful monastery will ease your 6.8 KM hiking in 5.5 hours. The KyanjinGompais at an altitude of 3870 meters. The route is through flat land, and stiff trails and downhill through places with walls inscribed Padme Mani Hum and Buddhist prayer flags, and a stream near-by the village of Mundu. Reaching the destination, you appreciate the views of icefalls from the mountains like Mt LangtangLirung and Kimshung. You stay in the place at night.
Day 7: Back to Lama Hotel
Today, your speed will be amazing as you walk 21.6 KM in 4.5 hours. You come back to Lama Hotel, at2784 meters. You will see the views of the magnificent Himalayas and walk along the Langtang River. You will stay at Lama Hotel.
Day 08: Lama Hotel to ThuloSyabru
You will have completed half of your trekking today! Just walk 5 hours to ThuloSyabru at2000 meters. You will trail through downhill to Pairo, then cross the river, and hike a stiffy trail to ThuloSyabru. On your way, you pass beautiful Tamang villages, and enjoying views of Langtang Himal. And who knows, you may see wild Red Pandas on your way!. You rest at ThuloSyabru that night.
Day 9: ThuloSyabru to Shin Gompa
Today, you will hike 4-5 hours climbing uphill the village of Dimsa, Durdang, and then arrive at ForprangDanda (3200 meters), which is close to your destination of Shin Gompa (3330 meters). The beautiful trail of the day passes through forested areas with
rhododendron, oak, and hemlock. You will continue viewing the sight of the mountains, especially Langtang and Ganesh Himal. You may think of testing local cheese and enjoy the serenity of the Shin Gompa (monastery) at night.
Day 10: Shin Gompa to Lauribina Yak
You will walk 4-5 hours to Lauribina Yak at 3920 meters after you gained energy at Shin Gompa. You will climb ChalangPati and, from its viewpoints, will have a captivating view of mount LangtangLirung and beyond the Nepal borders, the Tibetan mountains. Then, passing through beautiful forests, with red pandas, finally, climb up to Laurebina Yak.
Day 11: Lauribina Yak to Gosaikunda Lake
You are almost there! Walk 4 more hours to Gosaikunda Lake (4460 meters) past Sakyamuni temple and beautiful lakes namely SaraswatiKunda and BhairavKunda.
Day 12: Gosaikunda to Gopte
You are gaining heights! Today, you will be at an altitude of 3440 meters! This the altitude of Gopteand you need to trail 6-7 hours. You climb rugged mountains three small lakes, Lauribina pass (4609 meters), and Phedi and arrive at Gupte to take night’s rest.
Day 13: Gupte to Tharepati
You are really taking increased challenges, as, today you will walk 5-6 hours to Tharepati (3640 meters)! Going up and downs, your last leg is uphill to Tharepati. Night in Tharepati.
Day 14: Tharepati to GulBhanjayang
The gorgeous village of Gul Bhanjyang at 2140 meters is your downhill destination through Shivapuri National Park. Walk for 5 hours through Magen Goth at 3420 meters, you will arrive at Panghu and Khumsang before reaching your destination. Stay at Gul Bhanjyang at night.
Day 15: GulBhanjayang to Chisopani
Chisopani2134 meters are just 5-6 hours away, so walk! The forest trails lead through ThodangBetini (2260 meters), Chipping, and PatiBhanjyang at 1860 meters. Just try a bit, you are in Chisopani. Enjoy overnight there and, a popular sunrise view place. Stay overnight and enjoy, the next morning, the sunrise views.
Day 16: Chisopani to Sundarijal. Drive to Kathmandu
Done! The last leg of 4-5 hours walks to Sundarijal (1300 meters) passing through Shivapuri National Park. Then ride to Kathmandu city for 1.5 hours.
